The IEEE Learning Technology Standards Committee (LTSC) is chartered by the IEEE Computer Society Standards Activity Board to develop internationally accredited technical standards, recommended practices, and guides for learning technology. The IEEE LTSC follows an open and transparent, formal standards development process.

IEEE LTSC coordinates with other organizations, both formally and informally, that produce specifications and standards for learning technologies. Membership is required to view Working Group and Study Group documents and post to email lists, and to vote on draft standards and participate in ballot resolution.

Some needs are being addressed by active Working Groups, such as to extend the xAPI suite and adaptive institutional systems interoperability. There is churn around use of generative AI in learning technologies that needs to settle down. As best practices emerge this is an area of future need.

LTSC standards support developers and users of learning technologies across sectors and levels of education and training, from PK-20 education to workforce and military learning and development.
